- In Nordic myth, the universe was divided into nine sections as listed below:1. Ljosalfaheim, the heaven of the righteous, separated by Vidblainn from2. Muspellheim, the home of the flame spirits, separated by Andlang from3. Godheim, the dwelling of the Aesir.4. Vanaheim, the dwelling of the Vanir.5. Mannheim, the abode of mankind.6. Svartalfheim, the cavern world where dwell the elves.7. Jötunheim, the land of the giants.8. Helheim, the region of death.9. Niflheim, the lowest region in which dwelt also Nastrond. It is interesting to note that the Aesir insisted on retaining their social status vis-à-vis the Vanir, even although the two races had fused into one.
